Frozen Pre-cut Fruit - A safer way to consume!
Fruits like #Durian and #Jackfruit are not only big in their serving portion, it is also difficult to extract their flesh. Besides, small household may find it hard to finish all if they were to buy a whole fruit. That is why when we are presented with the pre-cut/ packed options of buying our groceries in the evening, to satisfy our crave yet not excessive.
However, the hygiene conditions in these pre-cut and/or packaged fruits in our market are not always the best. We may be aware of the news reported in recent years, about a salmonella outbreak in the United States, which has been linked to cut and packaged melon and watermelon. In #Malaysia, there are plenty of cases of food poisoning throughout the year due to packed fruit consumption but luckily not fatal.
According to the experts, the main causes would be lack of adherence to hygiene rules, cross-contamination or interruptions in the cold chain. That is why it is so important to follow the basic rules of hygiene in order to avoid contamination.
In this case, the facility and the people involved in the entire process must have hygiene compliance. For example, controlled temperature, cold chain flow, handlers’ protection and a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to ensure the handling process is safe.
The whole extracting process are being completed in a Clean room which is a controlled environment that has a low level of pollutants such as dust, airborne microbes, aerosol particles, and chemical vapors.
Proper gowning of staff is carefully controlled and enforced.
Frozen fruits can be preserved longer without losing its nutrients and in fact research has revealed that frozen fruits can have just as many vitamins -- and sometimes more -- as compared to fresh.
